There are three types of the best composters today and these are batch composters, continuous composters and indoor composters. Before you can select the best composter possible, it is important that you get to know each type first.

  • Batch composters. These composters are equipped with tumble action which makes them one of the most efficient. This is also the fastest way of creating compost, however, it needs to be turned daily and moisture has to be checked. You will not have to worry about insects like rodents getting in the compost because it has a lid to protect it. This is best for gardeners who are looking for a place to throw their scraps in.
  • Indoor composters. Most of these composters come with their very own worm bins. This is smaller composter which is especially designed for indoor use. It will allow you to turn food scraps into compost for your houseplants.

What you will need to do in order to make sure that you pick the best composter is to determine the size which will be able to fit in your garden without consuming all the space. You should still be able to move about your garden freely even with the composter in it.

If you have a small garden, you should go for a bin which is tall and narrow. You will also need to ask yourself what types of materials you plan on putting in the bin. If you plan on using food scraps, it is best to get a worm compost bin.Best Composter

Do you compost in Zone 9?

I have zero experience with composting. I also have zero funds to start a composting project. I do have a large yard, lots of dirt, access to cinder blocks and lumber… is this enough to start a composting container?
Because I’m in zone 9 and live in an urban area, we occasionally have issues with roaches. I’m aware that a compost bin needs to get air circulation, but I’m worried about bug infestations. Is there a pest deterrant to add to a compost?
Is a compost bin really even worth having if I only plan on having a moderately sized vegetable garden? Is it more work than it’s worth? Should I just scrimp up some money for whatever halfway decent fertilizer I can find instead?
